Dear Friends,
One
of the world’s most important countries today - politically,
economically, and culturally – India’s history
conjures up visions of exotic markets, mystical Hindu sages,
fabulously wealthy maharajas and vast temples of white marble
that shimmer in the brilliant noonday sun. Join this photography
tour, which is open to non-photographers as well, and you
will be initially enthralled by Mumbai…a thriving financial
metropolis of l5 million where hundreds of Bollywood films
are made each year. Flying north to Gujarat, a seldom-visited
region north of Mumbai (Bombay) you begin your off-the-beaten
path Indian adventure in Ahmedabad.

A
new / old city, well known for its teeming bazaars, Hindu
temples, and its l6th century step wells, the city is
a Mecca for fans of historic and contemporary Indian folk
art and textiles. Buildings by French architect Le Cobusier
and American architect Louis Khan have brought the city into
the 21st century. Continuing into Rajasthan, ruled by the
mighty Mogul emperors during the l5th and l6th centuries,
you will be dazzled by: Udaipur where you will stay at the
Mogul style Trident Hotel overlooking Lake Pichola;
the ancient village of Sadargarh where you will stay in a
haveli, a maharaja's 18th century fortress and now
a Heritage Hotel; and by Jaipur, the Pink City renowned for
its Palace of the Wind. It will be the famous Pushkar Camel
Fair, however, which will a long remembered highlight of your
Indian adventure. Here, thousands of Rajputs in colorful
turbans buy and sell brilliantly decorated camels. Magicians,
soothsayers, storytellers, and handicraft vendors add to the
excitement. Another tour highlight is the fabulous Taj Mahal
in Agra. Still under the magic of the Taj, your next remarkable
experience will be the opportunity to extend your trip
to include 3-days in Varanasi, one of the world's most ancient,
holy cities on the banks of the famed Ganges river. It
is here that Indians from throughout the nation perform ancient
purification rites as well as cremate the remains of their
dead to be scattered in the Holy Ganges. Our tour ends in
India's great capital city of New Delhi where you will be
enthralled by the English Raj architecture.
A
word about booking: Because of limited royal tent accommodations
at the Pushkar Camel Fair…and the continued limited
number of superior hotel rooms throughout booming India, down
payments and final payments for the tour are required
many months prior to departure. It is important that you
note these date…and if you do book – realize that
your down payment is non refundable. The simply reason is,
the demand for rooms in India today is so enormous, it is
a question of the early bird getting the rooms…and the
hotels being exceedingly inflexible in their booking policies.
So, a word of advice: the sooner you book this tour, the
better your chance of being aboard. Late bookings may
very likely result in a disappointment.
Sincerely,
Lisl and Landt Dennis
